Non-reciprocal interactions enhance heterogeneity

چکیده
We study a process of pattern formation for generic model species anchored to the nodes network where local reactions take place, and that experience non-reciprocal long-range interactions, encoded by directed links. By assuming system exhibit stable homogeneous equilibrium whenever only interactions are considered, we prove such can turn unstable once suitable allowed for. Stated differently propose sufficient conditions allowing patterns emerge using non-symmetric coupling, while initial perturbations about homogenous fade away reciprocal coupling. The instability, precursor emerging spatio-temporal patterns, be traced back, via linear stability analysis, complex spectrum an interaction Laplace operator. Taken together, our results pave way understanding many heterogeneous complexity found in ecological, chemical or physical systems composed interacting parts, no diffusion takes place.

Heterogeneity stabilizes reciprocal altruism interactions.
In considering the phenomena of reciprocal altruism few would dispute that there are differences in individual quality-in particular, that for some individuals, at least on occasion, the cost of doing favors will exceed the potential of future benefits. That is, at any given time, a typical population is heterogeneous with respect to the affordability of reciprocal altruism. However, methodolog...
متن کاملActive particle condensation by non-reciprocal and time-delayed interactions.
We consider the flocking of self-propelling agents in two dimensions, each of which communicates with its neighbors within a limited vision-cone. Also, the communication occurs with some time-delay. The communication among the agents are modeled by Vicsek rules. In this study we explore the combined effect of non-reciprocal interaction (induced by limited vision-cone) among the agents and the p...
متن کاملPersistent Flows and Non-Reciprocal Interactions in Deterministic Networks
This paper studies deterministic consensus networks with discrete-time dynamics under persistent flows and non-reciprocal agent interactions. An arc describing the interaction strength between two agents is said to be persistent if its weight function has an infinite l1 norm. We discuss two balance conditions on the interactions between agents which generalize the arc-balance and cut-balance co...
متن کاملNon-linear tumor-immune interactions arising from spatial metabolic heterogeneity
A hybrid multiscale mathematical model of tumor growth is used to investigate how tumoral and microenvironmental heterogeneity affect the response of the immune system. The model includes vascular dynamics and evolution of metabolic tumor phenotypes. Cytotoxic T cells are simulated, and their effect on tumor growth is shown to be dependent on the structure of the microenvironment and the distri...
متن کاملVisualizing Reciprocal and Non-Reciprocal Relationships in an Online Community
Online communities thrive on their members’ participation and contributions. There are numerous ways to visually represent information, current status, power, and acceptance of members in an online community. In this paper we present a design of a visualization representing reciprocal and non-reciprocal relationships among users, which emphasizes and hopefully triggers common bond in the commun...
